Product Manager, Performance (Databricks)

You will oversee Databricks performance efforts and ensure its success. Databricks is changing the way the industry thinks about (big) data and you will lead the charge to continue driving this change. You will collaborate with brilliant engineers and customers to ensure that we deliver valuable products.  You will work closely with the executive team to establish our competitive positioning and strategy, and interface with our sales and field team to ramp revenue and sales to make this product stand out in a growing multi-billion dollar market.
You will join our team in Amsterdam who strive to make the Databricks Runtime the fastest and most powerful execution engine for big data. Your role will be to understand where better performance will make a meaningful difference to our customers. This job exists to own the product roadmap for the features and technology that make Databricks Runtime the fastest and most powerful execution engine for big data

Outcomes

Within the first 6 months:
    • Have established a roadmap for the performance area based around customer value
    • Have developed a joined understanding across engineering, Sales, Field and Customer Success of key customer workloads and the performance tradeoffs for each
    • Maintain a competitive analysis of other Spark execution environments and their performance differentiator

Responsibilities

    • Figure out what people need; build it as quickly as possible with our amazing engineers and designers; ship it smoothly; magnify the impact customers can have and make them more productive; measure impact; grow our company. Repeat.
    • Identify needs through a combination of user research, collecting feedback from cross-functional teammates, diving into data, and competitive analysis.
    • Define product vision and strategy, and inspire people with it across the company.
    • Develop detailed requirements and user stories that can be used to create product specifications and architecture for each product and application.  Ruthlessly prioritize.
    • Define roadmap, positioning, and pricing. Drive product launches with the marketing team.
    • Ensure we ship a well-crafted product at a timely pace.
    • Define metrics for success and failure. Analyze and create dashboards for key metrics.

Requirements / Competencies

      • Ability to grasp complex systems at a technical level.
      • Leading major product initiatives in enterprise software, big data and cloud technologies.
      • Ability to obtain a thorough technical understanding of our performance efforts, the tradeoffs involved, and choosing the right approach to deliver the most value.
      • Proven ability to launch successful product experiences that are used and loved by customers.
      • Excellent communication/presentation skills
      • Strong analytical skills, with excellent problem solving abilities in the face of ambiguity.
      • Listen well. You build consensus by default, but can drive hard decisions when you have to. You push the pace. You take the blame and pass on praise.
      • Entrepreneurial, “can do” attitude, ability and willingness to make an impact in a start-up organization.
Bonus:
    • Experience applying Machine Learning to user facing data products.
    • Experience working with Apache Spark, ETL, or data warehousing products
