Knocking down technical barriers to the adoption of Cloudera’s products is the main responsibility of a Sales Engineer at Cloudera. This includes being the technical part of the sales team focused on presenting Cloudera’s technology to help solve customers’ critical business problems. Another critical part of the role is ensuring the success of existing customers along with expanding the usage of Cloudera’s technology by discovering additional use cases within a customer’s organization. In order to do this successfully an understanding of a few key technologies is important, namely, databases, Java, distributed systems, data analytics and Linux.
Engage with sales prospects where you prepare and present Cloudera’s technology along with addressing any technical questions that come up during the sales cycle
Support the technical needs of existing customers including discovering additional use cases for Cloudera’s technology
Work closely with the product management and engineering team to align customer requirements to future versions and products
Have a deep understanding of Cloudera’s technology and a willingness to learn new technologies when needed
Experience with performing customer facing activities as part of pre-sales team or professional services team
In-depth knowledge of the following:
SQL – query optimization and data model design
Demonstrable ability to create and give technical presentations and demo
Excellent communicator who has experience presenting to a wide range of audiences
