Arun is a full time contributor to the Apache Hadoop project since it’s inception in 2006. Initially, he led the MapReduce project ​​and then started Hadoop YARN resource & workload management platform to re-invent Hadoop as a Data Centre Operating System​. Arun played a key role in efforts to cement Apache Hive as the de-facto standard for SQL in the Hadoop ecosystem, including ​​efforts on Apache Tez. Prior to co-founding Hortonworks, Arun was responsible for all Hadoop MapReduce ​​platform deployed across the 42,000+ servers at Yahoo!. In essence, he was responsible for running Apache Hadoop as a service for Yahoo!. Also, he jointly held the current world sorting record using Apache Hadoop at one point.
